For Two Only

Lucas looked up and smiled at the young man walking into his office. Stewart was here for his enforced morning break from the bakery and appeared to be bearing gifts.

After nudging the door closed behind him, Stewart set two cups of coffee and two heart-shaped cupcakes on the desk. Then he walked around and plunked himself down on his partner’s lap, obviously looking for a short cuddle before wheeling over another chair and sitting down.

“These look almost too good to eat, sweetheart.” Lucas closely examined the treats that were so nicely decorated for the occasion.

Stewart smiled mischievously as he reached over and tried to snatch Lucas’ cupcake back. “Well if you don’t want it...”

“Oh, I want it all right,” Lucas growled and held the cupcake out of reach.

The two men spent a quiet fifteen minutes enjoying their cake and coffee, and light conversation.

Pulling open a drawer, Lucas drew out a plastic red rose with a small heart hanging on the stem and handed it to Stewart. “Push down on the top of it,” he instructed.

Stewart did so and the flower lit up. “This is kind of silly,” he muttered.

“Well what can you expect for a buck and a quarter?”

“Is that all I’m worth to you? Heck, the cupcakes are worth more than that.” Stewart’s expression was one of outrage mingled with a touch of hurt feelings.

Lucas gently tugged his partner back onto his lap. “You are too precious for me to ever put a monetary value on, my love.” Lucas kissed the pouting lips in an attempt to mollify the love of his life. He wondered if it was his words or the kiss that pacified man in his arms. “By the way, I want you home on time this evening as I’ve made arrangements with the Trillium Inn for a special dinner.”

“I really don’t want to go there tonight, Lucas. It’s going to be crowded and we’ll have to dress up. I’d rather do something more private for Valentine’s Day.”

“I thought you would, which is why I am having our meal delivered. You’ll be able to dress down. And for dessert, you can undress completely.” Lucas wiggled his eyebrows and tickled Stewart’s ribs, causing his partner to giggle.

Pushing away from his tormentor, Stewart announced his plans to get back to work. “I’ll see you later; right on time,” he promised. With that, he stuck the rose between his teeth, sent Lucas a flirtatious wink and sashayed out the door with hips swinging in an exaggerated, teasing manner. Lucas’ roar of laughter followed him.

Two men eagerly awaited an evening meant only for lovers.

The End
